“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 King James Bible Version)
There isn’t a verse in the Bible that better encapsulates the Christian faith than this verse, and it’s one I think of often. I was particularly reminded of it the night before recent back surgery, as its promise of everlasting life brought to me a sense of peace during a difficult time.
The scripture, however, affirms that we must keep our faith. This can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than others—as we don’t know how to answer the questions of why bad things sometimes happen to good people; why life can throw us difficult problems; or why we must suffer through sadness and heartache. Our goal is to keep the faith, especially when our faith is tested. We must believe in God and know that God has a plan for us.
On this Good Friday, Christians remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us all and the gift God bestowed upon His believers. God loved us enough to send His only Son to die on the cross and absolve us of our sins…that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish.
Today I wish you a blessed Good Friday. May the blessings of the Lord shine upon you on this Holy Day and may God always keep you in His loving care.
